SESCO Celebrates Silos Commissioning at Houston Terminal

SESCO Cement celebrated a significant milestone on Oct. 14, with a silos commissioning ceremony at its Houston terminal at Port Houston. The event brought together company leadership, elected officials, port representatives and industry partners to recognize the company’s continued investment in infrastructure and its commitment to strengthening the construction materials supply chain.

The commissioning of the silos represents another important step in SESCO Cement’s ongoing expansion, enhancing the company’s ability to efficiently store, handle, and distribute cement to customers throughout Texas and around the nation.

The Houston facility, recognized as the largest single-owner cement terminal in the United States, serves as a strategic hub for SESCO’s cement import and distribution operations. The Houston terminal is a 22-acre facility on the Houston Ship Channel with five storage domes and six drive-through concrete silos with a total storage capacity of 250,000 metric tons.

The facility also features an integrated rail terminal, enhancing SESCO Cement’s ability to efficiently transport and distribute cement by rail.

“This milestone reflects our continued commitment to investing in the infrastructure, technology, and capabilities needed to support the evolving demands of the construction industry,” said Aly El Etreby, interim CEO of SESCO Cement. “Houston is central to our U.S. operations, and the commissioning of these silos represents another important achievement in our long-term growth strategy. We are grateful to our employees, partners and customers who have helped make this possible.”

Joining SESCO leadership for the ceremonial ribbon cutting were Rep. Randy Weber (Texas-14); Gregg Reyes, Houston pilot board commissioner and president of Reytec Construction Resources; Eric Casey, chief operating officer of Port Houston; and Eric Carrero, president of the Greater Houston Port Bureau.

The event highlighted the strong partnerships between SESCO Cement and the maritime, transportation, and construction industries that support the region’s economic growth.  Strategically located along one of the nation’s busiest waterways, SESCO’s Houston terminal provides access to international shipping routes and an extensive regional transportation network.

Its integrated cargo handling, storage, and distribution capabilities allow the company to serve ready-mix concrete producers, contractors and other customers who depend on a consistent and reliable supply of cement.

The commissioning also reflects SESCO’s broader commitment to operational excellence and long-term investment in the U.S. market. With its U.S. headquarters based in Houston and an expanding network of terminal operations, SESCO continues to strengthen its position as a key supplier of essential construction materials.

“The success of this project is a testament to the dedication of our team and the strength of our partnerships,” added El Etreby. “As we continue to grow, our focus remains on building a reliable, efficient, and integrated distribution network that supports our customers and the communities we serve.”

The Houston commissioning follows another significant milestone for SESCO Cement in 2026: the opening of its new cement import terminal at Port Tampa Bay in June. Together, these investments underscore the company’s strategic vision to expand its operational capabilities, strengthen its national distribution network, and support infrastructure and construction growth across the United States.
