Amrize Supplies Low-Carbon Building Solutions for New Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library

Amrize’s American-made building solutions are helping make one of the country’s most technically ambitious civic projects possible. Located in Medora, N.D., the 100,000-sq.-ft. Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library was designed to meet the rigorous requirements of the Living Building Challenge 4.0 while withstanding the extreme climate of the Badlands, where seasonal temperature swings can exceed 100°F.

Amrize supplied 5,000 short tons of American-made, low-carbon cement and 4,000 short tons of slag for the project. Working with Dickinson Ready-Mix, the company developed a custom ternary blend of Type 1L cement, slag and fly ash that delivered the durability required for North Dakota’s demanding environment while helping reduce embodied carbon.

From the earliest stages of the project, Amrize collaborated with Dickinson Ready-Mix to develop and refine seven project-specific concrete mix designs, achieving supplementary cementitious material (SCM) replacement rates of 50-70% while meeting strict performance requirements for strength, durability and constructibility.

The library’s July 4 inauguration also reflects its commitment to American-made materials. Amrize supplied cement produced at its flagship Ste. Genevieve, Missouri plant and slag from Chicago, supporting the project’s domestic sourcing objectives.
