Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in March 2026 were an estimated 8.50 million metric tons (Mt), a 5.1% increase from shipments in March 2025. Shipments for the year through March totaled an estimated 21.3 Mt, a 6.5% increase from those for the same period in 2025.
Of total blended tonnage reported year-to-date in 2026, 12.7 Mt (96%) was estimated to be portland-limestone cement (Type IL); the leading destination for Type IL shipments by tonnage was Texas.
- The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in March 2026 were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
- The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and Georgia, in descending order) received 44.8% of shipments in March.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 163,000 metric tons (t) in March 2026, an 11.1% decrease from those in March 2025. Shipments for the year through March totaled an estimated 432,000 t, a decrease of 9.6% from those for the same period in 2025.
The leading masonry-cement-consuming states in March 2026 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, Tennessee, California and North Carolina; these states received 56.3% of shipments in March.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 5.07 Mt in March 2026, a 1.1% increase from that in March 2025. Production for the year through March totaled an estimated 13.7 Mt, a 4.1% increase from the same period in 2025.
The leading clinker-producing states in March 2026 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and Alabama. Data for clinker imports into the Detroit and Seattle customs districts do not include material trucked in from Canada on an informal-entry basis.
Monthly imports can show significant year-over-year changes for a variety of reasons and commonly do not correlate well with consumption levels in the respective import districts in the same month. March 2026 imports of cement and clinker, including the San Juan, Puerto Rico, customs district, totaled 2.16 Mt, a 23.6% increase from March 2025. Imports for the year through March totaled 5.24 Mt, an increase of 2.3% from those for the same period in 2025.
An estimate for cement imported by independent importers not participating in the USGS surveys is provided but import volumes do not correlate well with consumption levels by domestic final customers in many of the respective import districts. Customs districts affected include, but are not limited to, Houston-Galveston, TX; Miami; New Orleans; Philadelphia; Savannah, Ga.; and Tampa, Fla.
