A new membership program from Building Transparency, Seattle-based Embodied Carbon Calculator (EC3) developer, affords construction value chain stakeholders a direct way to support the technology tool’s underlying infrastructure.
Free to a registered-user base of 70,000-plus, EC3 presents carbon dioxide or CO2 equivalent emissions data from a global library of more than 250,000 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) spanning 2,000 material or product categories.

“Reliable, comparable EPD data is the foundation for every low-carbon decision our customers make. We’ve worked alongside Building Transparency on Product Category Rule and EPD initiatives for years and have seen how much the industry depends on EC3,” said Heidelberg Materials Manager, Market Solutions and Development Shane Mulligan. “Membership is how we invest in keeping that infrastructure open, neutral and growing.”
The new program does not change a Building Transparency commitment to EC3 neutrality and open access; core tools and functionality remain free. Membership helps sustain shared infrastructure while offering recognition, premium features, opportunities to provide input into the tool’s roadmap, plus access to member insights and forums.
Building Transparency announced the program along with an EC3 2.0 launch at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, Oct. 20-23 in New York City. Supplier, manufacturer and design or engineering professional attendees will see the new version’s improved AI-assisted data quality and ingestion; clearer data-quality indicators; and modernized Find & Compare Materials and Project Planner.
