A partnership involving ABB, Swiss electrification and automation giant, and Helsinki-based Coolbrook Oy, RotoDynamic Heater (RDH) system developer, has reached a delivery phase enabling the companies test their technology’s potential to dry and beneficiate alternative fuels for an Adani Cement plant in India. A partial switch from fossil to alternative fuels will position the producer to lower the facility’s annual carbon dioxide emissions by 60,000 tons.

The installation will mark the first industrial-scale demonstration of RDH high temperature heat delivery. Coolbrook engineers envision their system potentially reaching 1,700°C when fully realized in such high industrial heat environments as cement and steel production. The Adani Cement mill RDH will draw on an ABB electrical equipment scope, where drives, motors and other components integrate with the Ability 800xA distributed control system.
