Superior Materials LLC, a division of Votorantim Cimentos North America (VCNA), will celebrate the grand reopening of its Jefferson concrete batch plant in Detroit on Oct. 27. The ceremony marks the completion of a $15 million investment in its Detroit operations that doubles both the facility’s production capacity and unionized workforce.
Superior will celebrate the grand reopening of the JMT facility with members of its workforce, customers, community partners, and local dignitaries. The event will highlight the company’s investment, the employees who make its operations possible, and Superior’s continued commitment to Detroit and Southeast Michigan.
The investment represents a significant commitment to Detroit and the region, expanding Superior’s ability to supply the concrete needed for some of Southeast Michigan’s most important and demanding construction projects – from major downtown developments to neighborhood roads, local schools, hospitals, residential projects, and critical water and sanitation infrastructure.

“Concrete is one of those things that most people don’t think about until they see the finished building, road, or sidewalk,” said Jeffrey Krupcale, president of Superior Materials. “But it is foundational to everything we build. This investment allows Superior to do more of what we have always done: provide high-quality concrete, create good union jobs, and invest in the communities where we live and work. We are proud to be growing our Detroit operations and even prouder that this growth benefits our employees, our customers, and other locally owned businesses throughout the region.”
Superior focuses on supplying the most sustainable products into our concrete mixes for some of Detroit’s most recognizable and technically demanding projects, including Little Caesars Arena, the Hudson Tower and the new JW Marriott high-rise. At the same time, the company supplies concrete for the everyday projects that keep communities moving – including local roads, residential construction, water and sanitation infrastructure, and projects for businesses and community organizations throughout Southeast Michigan.
The Jefferson plant’s expanded capacity will enable Superior to serve more customers and larger projects while supporting continued growth in Detroit and surrounding communities.
The investment also creates a broader economic impact by strengthening the network of locally owned businesses that make up Southeast Michigan’s construction economy. Superior’s concrete becomes part of projects built by and for businesses, developers, municipalities, contractors, and community organizations across the region.
“This is about more than a concrete plant,” said Edilson Chimilovski, VCNA, president of Aggregates and Ready-Mix, North America. “It is about investing in people, investing in Detroit, and strengthening the local businesses and communities that make this region such a great place to live, work, and build.”
