According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in January 2026 were an estimated 5.97 million metric tons (Mt), a 3.5% increase from revised shipments in January 2025.
Of total blended tonnage reported year-to-date in 2026, 3.45 Mt (96%) was estimated to be portland-limestone cement (Type IL); the leading destination for Type IL shipments
by tonnage was Texas.
The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in January 2026 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, Florida, California, Arizona, and Georgia, in descending order) received 49.0% of shipments in January.
Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 142,000 metric tons in January 2026, a 1.4% decrease from those in January 2025. The leading masonry-cementconsuming states in January 2026 were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia; these states received 60.3% of shipments in January.
Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 4.71 Mt in January 2026, a 10.6% increase from that in January 2025. The leading clinker-producing states in January 2026 were, in descending order, Missouri, Texas, California, Florida and Alabama.
Data for clinker imports into the Detroit and Seattle, Customs districts do not include material trucked in from Canada on an informal-entry basis. Monthly imports can show significant year-over-year changes for a variety of reasons and commonly do not correlate well with consumption levels in the respective import districts in the same month.
January 2026 imports of cement and clinker, including the San Juan, PR, customs district, totaled 1.80 Mt, a 19.2% increase from January 2025.
An estimate for cement imported by independent importers not participating in the USGS survey has been made, but import volumes do not correlate well with consumption levels by domestic final customers in many of the respective import districts.
Customs districts affected include, but are not limited to, Houston/Galveston, Miami, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Savannah, Ga., and Tampa, Fla.
