USGS: Cement Production Rises 7% in First Quarter

Shipments of portland and blended cement were estimated to have increased by 7% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter of 2025, according to Jason Willett, commodity specialist for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

This information was obtained from the USGS monthly survey of U.S. cement producers.

On the aggregates side, the estimated U.S. output of construction aggregates produced and shipped for consumption in the first quarter of 2026 was 481 million metric tons (Mt), an increase of 6% when compared with the same period of 2025.

The estimated production-for-consumption of construction aggregates in the first quarter of 2026 increased in seven of the nine geographic divisions when compared with that sold or used in the first quarter of 2025.

Production-for-consumption increased in 34 of the 42 states for which estimates were made. The five leading states were, in descending order of production-for-consumption, Texas, California, Florida, Missouri and North Carolina. Their combined total production-for-consumption was 164 Mt, an increase of 5% when compared with the same period of 2025

An estimated 301 Mt of crushed stone was produced for consumption in the United States in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 6% when compared with the same period of 2025.

The estimated production-for-consumption of crushed stone in the first quarter of 2026 increased in six of the nine geographic divisions when compared with that sold or used in the first quarter of 2025.

Production-for-consumption increased in 34 of the 46 states for which estimates were made. The five leading states were, in descending order of production-for-consumption, Texas, Missouri, Florida, North Carolina and Georgia. Their combined total production-for-consumption was 115 Mt, an increase of 5% when compared with the same period of 2025.

The estimated U.S. output of construction sand and gravel produced for consumption in the first quarter of 2026 was 180 Mt, an increase of 6% when compared with the same period of 2025.

The estimated production-for-consumption of construction sand and gravel in the first quarter of 2026 increased from the first quarter of 2025 in seven of the nine geographic divisions.

Production-for-consumption increased in 35 of the 43 states for which estimates were made. The five leading states were, in descending order of production-for-consumption, Texas, California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. Their combined total production-for-consumption was 71.4 Mt, an increase of 13% when compared with the same period of 2025.

The above estimates are based on information reported to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on its quarterly sample survey by construction aggregates producers.

USGS also made revisions to previous totals. The U.S. total produced for consumption for 2024 was revised using full-year sales data provided by the companies. Estimates for 2025 were recalculated using the revised total for 2024.

The revised U.S. total of crushed stone in 2024 was 1.49 billion metric tons (Gt). The revised estimate for the 2025 U.S. total was 1.48 Gt. The revised U.S. total produced for consumption of construction sand and gravel in 2024 was 933 Mt. The revised estimate for the 2025 U.S. total was 923 Mt.
